Geometry Honors Class Grading and Policies
GRADING (no rounding of final grades)
Tests will receive a percentage score and the grade will be assigned according to the following scale:
A 90-100 (a student must earn 98% or higher, with out rounding, to earn an A+)
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
Final 9 week grades will be calculated by taking the total points earned for the 9 weeks and dividing by the total points possible.
Semester grades will be calculated using following percentages: 1st 9 weeks is 40%, 2nd 9 weeks is 40%, and the semester final is 20% of the semester grade.
Grades in geometry honors will be weighted for your GPA thus any student receiving a C- or higher will receive an extra point towards their GPA for this class. Notice: Any grade D+ or lower WILL NOT RECEIVE THE BONUS POINT ON THEIR GPA
You must pass 2 of the 3 following: 1st 9 week, 2nd 9 week, or semester final to be eligible to pass the class
Passing 2 of these guarantees you at least a D- for the semester.
CHAPTER TESTS
In mathematics new material builds on previous concepts thus chapter tests will be cumulative, meaning that you are expected to retain the information you have learned in previous chapters ANY TALKING DURING THE TEST WILL RESULT IN A 10% DEDUCTION AND A WARNING. THE 2ND TIME I HAVE TO TELL YOU NOT TO TALK IT WILL BE ASSUMED YOU WERE TRYING TO CHEAT IN SOME MANNER AND YOU WILL RECEIVE A 0 FOR THE TEST.
ASSIGNMENTS & HOMEWORK
The student needs to keep one notebook for homework only. Assignments will be checked on a random basis for points towards your grade. The homework will only count if you have it in at the instructed time. Late homework is not accepted unless you are absent!! If you are absent it is your responsibility to get the assignment from the instructor or a classmate. You will have the same number of days you were absent to turn in the completed assignment. Homework in pen will not be accepted. You must do all assignments in PENCIL and in your homework notebook!!!
Homework or classwork that is collected will be graded as follows:
a) If it is complete the student will receive credit-- (1pt)
b) If incomplete the student will receive NO CREDIT and the assignment needs to be completed
c) If never turned in, the assignment will be marked as MISSING and needs to be completed
(b and c are both worth 0 points)
If all homework assignments are completed the student will receive 4 points of extra credit towards their grade in addition to the approximately 5-10 points earned each chapter for assignments complete during the chapter.
For EACH NO CREDIT or MISSING assignment the student will lose 2 points off their grade.
All grades are based on the teachers estimation of the quality and quantity of the work done. Messy work or answer keys will not be accepted and will be given a 0. All algebra type problems should have an initial equation and a few steps showing how you solved the problem.
NOTEBOOKS
I think that a binder is the best choice for a notebook for this class. You will be given chapter outlines that will follow the presentations each class, you may use my 3 hole punch to punch holes in the notes and then place them in a binder. Students should keep extra paper in the binder to take additional notes of examles done in class.
ABSENCE & TARDIES (for each semester)
It is the responsibility of the student to make sure to make up all tests, quizzes, homework or notes they miss. You will have the same number of days you were absent to make up your work including tests and quizzes. If arrangements are made extra time can be given to make up tests and quizzes. Any student allowing more than two weeks to go by without making up a test or quiz will receive a ZERO unless other arrangements are made.
If a student is not in the room before the bell rings then he/she is tardy. The school policy will take affect.
ADDITIONAL HELP
If you want help, YOU have to ask!!!!!
The student is responsible to find help when needed. Consult your instructor or counselor.
Possible places to get help are SRT, tutor programs, appointment with a teacher, after school, a study group…
